Biomass plants convert organic waste into electricity. Agricultural, food and forestry residue that would otherwise decompose is burned or digested and the energy recovered.
Electrically, a biomass plant is a generation site: the output has to be conditioned, measured and connected to the grid. That connection point carries protection, metering and synchronisation duties at once.
Because the plant both consumes and produces, the internal distribution has to handle power flowing in either direction, and the protection scheme must prevent the plant from energising a dead grid.
Typical scope: generator connection panels, step-up transformers, medium voltage switchgear, metering and synchronisation, and the internal low voltage distribution of the plant.
