Treatment plants collect domestic water, industrial effluent and storm water, treat it and return it to use. The electrical infrastructure behind that process runs continuously and is dominated by motors.
Pumping is the heart of the plant. Motor control centres with variable speed drives allow pumps to follow demand instead of running flat out, which cuts both energy use and mechanical wear on the pumps themselves.
Because plants are usually spread across a wide site, distribution matters as much as control: substations are placed close to the load, and the medium voltage ring is arranged so a single fault does not stop the whole process.
